A deadly storm hit the three Central American countries and caused sever destruction. According to reports 144 people are dead and a large number of people are homeless as a result of this storm. Not only this, tropical storm Agatha unleashed massive floods in Guatemala. In Guatemala 120 people were reported killed from the areas hit by massive floods and landslides.
In Guatemala City, a three-storey building fell into a 200ft-deep sink hole and according to reports one man has been killed and many are missing as a result of this hole. According to the eyewitnesses, one man was in the three-storey building when it was swallowed up at a downtown intersection.
Chimaltenango’s governor Erick de Leon said that in the western province of Chimaltenango, land sliding caused destruction and due to it three rural communities had been buried alive and it killed 160 people. He also said that the streets were blocked and filled with dead and injured people. People who still are alive there need water, food and clothes.
The mayor of Santa Apolonia Tulio Nunez says that they are worried about survivors because due to block roads they are unable to reach there in time.
The transportation minister Gerson Martinez said that land sliding has affected 95% of roads. He also told that 179 bridges have been damaged due to the storm Agatha. The Acelhuate River is a big threat because it has been running at dangerously high levels. Schools and universities have been closed till further notification. Death toll has been increasing and a state of emergency has been announced.
